Jan 11th 2003 - X51 Breakfast & Fly-in

January's X51 fly-in comprised a combination of activities.  Breakfast, Chikee-Chat, Safety Seminar, Club Meeting,  a lesson on the sport of skydiving, and a few words from Steve Rogers.

Julio and Jose made a terrific and bountiful breakfast.  Everybody had seconds yet we still had leftovers!  For only 3 bucks you simply won't find a better deal in Miami!!  Your loss if you missed it, (but you can still make up for it next month).

Next came the club's monthly meeting during which Cap'n Bob presided.

This week's "Chikee Chat" and door prize came courtesy of Fred Whitsit from Skydive Miami.  Fred and his crew were kind enough to drop in (literally) to give us an informative talk about their sport before departing with our lucky door prize winner (Julio Hernandez Jr.) to show him first hand how to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.  Needless to say, there was no lack of adrenaline in Julio's system that day!

Afterwards Mr. Steve Rogers from the Homestead Air Reserve Base gave a talk about the tower operations at the base. There may be another tour of the base in our future, but this time including time in a tower simulator!

LAFA extends a warm thank-you to Fred and his team from Skydive Miami and to Steve Rogers from the Homestead Air Reserve Base.

Look 'Ma - No Planes!

Julio Jr. wins the "out the door" prize.

Training begins immediately.

"...then I push him out..."

The falling position (Isn't that also the way they position corpses?)

I give up!!

Even Steve Rogers is amused.

Theirs isn't big and yellow but... it runs!

Steve Rogers discusses tower operations at the Homestead Air Reserve Base.

Last shot of the day - Ron Ohm's Chief does a "fly-by".
