This was a "rush-job LAFA
fly-out". A last minute fly-out event so LAFA could have a presence at
the Annual Air Show hosted by AMPS - Aero Modelers of Perrine. (We're still
trying to figure out what the S stands for).

Six planes departed from
X51 at 08:30 Hours and after a formation fly-by, landed on the AMPS model
airplane runway Niner west of Krome on 168th street. We set up an impromptu
"LAFA table" with a TV to show ultralight videos and sell LAFA T-Shirts.

The size of the crowd was
impressive. Just with the $2.00 parking fee, AMPS probably covered a
good chunk of operating overhead paid for. The AMPS field consists of
two manicured 700' runways, next to which they have ample covered outdoor
hangar and seating areas.

The air show they put
together was equally impressive. Dozens of meticulously built models
(up to 33% scale) of everything from cubs to fighters and bombers did fast
and slow flight demonstrations, aerobatics, vertical take-offs, vertical
hovers and other maneuvers we wish we could do in our own planes.

At noon John took off to
do a candy drop for the kids that were present. Once he was finished,
he landed then we all packed up and once again headed for home.

LAFA thanks Mike Laughlin
for inviting us to participate in their event. Mike promised that next
year he would give us more advanced notice so we can set up a better LAFA
booth.
